The harlequin ladybird or Asian lady beetle. Originally from eastern Asia. They are now becoming a problem in the U.K. They form swarms in sunlight areas

Description

Varied colours, red, black, yellow, orange, common colours, orange or black with two red spots
5.5mm - 8.5mm in size

Biology

Yellow/orange eggs
Female can lay over 1000 eggs, Black and orange larvae

Food

The harlequin ladybirds and their larvae, will eat on aphids and other small insects

Habitat

The harlequin ladybird will live on trees and plants, but over the winter, will congregate in buildings, usually on the south side
