Common Wasp

Introduction

The common wasp is a colonial insect. Their nests are a paper pulp-like. The Common Wasp will nest in loft space, tree cavities and underground. Nests are usually noticed in late spring, peaking in the summer, a nest can contain thousands of wasps.

Black and yellow abdomen, black thorax and head
Adult workers are around 1-3 cm Long

Biology

Egg to adult is around 2 weeks
Queens can produce 200-300 eggs per day for 24 days, Maturity within 2-3 months,The average life span of 9-12 months

Food

Wasps will eat flies, caterpillars, spiders, ants etc.
They are an important part of the food chain in the insect world.

Habitat

Wasps will nest in lofts wall cavities bushes, hollow trees, old rodent burrows etc
